Thanksgiving is the act of giving thanks; grateful acknowledgment of benefits or favours, especially from God. It is in this light that the Assemblies of God Church Calabar also known as the Covenant Centre appreciated God Almighty for his goodness in a harvest thanksgiving service tagged “The Harvest of Gratitude” on Sunday 6th December, 2020.
The Harvest thanksgiving was anchored by the Harvest Committee Chairman Deac. Engr. Godwin Akeke. In his remarks, Engr. Godwin Akeke mentioned that there are numerous reasons to show gratitude to God. For the Miracle of life and other things we cannot count.
The Chairman of harvest ceremony, Deacon David Arigo stated that this year has been terrible, but yet worth appreciating God for. He also said that the idea of gratitude is that which should never be overlooked and that everyone at the end of every year must always come back to say thank you to God. He also emphasized that harvest is a spiritual exercise, the act of appreciating God at the end of every year. He further mentioned his donation in appreciation to God.
Also speaking, Elder, Professor Bassey Okon appreciated God for saving the life of his wife, stating that God did not allow him to be put to shame. In his thanksgiving, he mentioned that he passed out in the month of November but God in his infinite mercies preserved and kept him alive. “My life is a wonder today” he added.
The senior minister of the church Rev. Joseph Ajor (Ph.D), in a sermon from the book of Psalms 93 verse 1, mentioned that God has blessed the church this year and deserves the harvest of gratitude from everyone’s heart. According to Rev. Joseph Ajor (Ph.D), every Christian must present his or herself a channel through which God will answer someone’s prayers. He expressed his thanks to God almighty for his favour and grace upon his home and the entire church,
Some donations where done anonymously, while some distinguished personalities also joined the Covenant Centre in appreciation to God by sending in items and parcels for thanksgiving. In this category includes Senator representing Central Senatorial District, Cross River State, Senator Sandy Ojang Onor, Mr. Peter Akpanke, Zenith Constructions, Tianshi Group, CSCE group, Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbo, and others too numerous to mention.
Special events included rendition by the Covenant Mass Choir, Praise and worship session and dance. All unto God for his faithfulness in the year 2020.
Items too numerous to mention were presented to God in appreciation for all that he has done. In addition, food and drinks was served both to appreciate and to refresh everyone in attendance.
The Harvest Thanksgiving Chairman Deacon Engr. Godwin Akeke, in his closing remarks thanked the entire church for their cooperation and openness of heart in appreciation to God.
The harvest thanksgiving service came to a close with a closing prayer said by the Senior Minister of the Church, Rev. Joseph Ajor (Ph.D) asking God’s Favour, Open heavens and protection on the church.
