The College of Health Technology Calabar has suspended the 56 days industrial action which started December 1st 2020.
This was conveyed in a bulletin christened “BULLETIN 4”, where comrades of the Joint action committee JAC of the Academic staff Union of Polytechnic ASUP and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnic SSANIP both in College of Health Technology reached an agreement with the Government of Cross River State.
The JAC chairman, Comrade Asuquo Ekpo revealed that the “government after a closed-door session with both unions approved 50% of the balance of the disputed CONPCASS and CONTEDISS salary structures payable to staff of CRS College of Health Technology, Calabar would be added and paid from November 2020 and the balance added subsequently.
He continued, “we hereby suspend the 56 Days old strike action. Members are therefore asked to resume work from Tuesday 26th January, 2021 with the believe that Government will keep to her end of the MOU”
Comrade Bright Ewona, Chairman Academic staff Union of Nigerian polytechnic (ASUP), College of Health Technology chapter, spoke with Nigerian Tribune on phone where he confirmed the development adding that, “ the governor called us for a round table conversation and because we are more interested in development our state, we have suspended the strike to allow students return back to school”
Comrade Effanga Archibong, Chairman Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnic SSANIP also spoke to Nigerian Tribune noting that, “ the union has decided to work the 50% proposed by the Governor for now, and we await the Governor in keeping to his side of the bargain.”
Comrade Chima Kedemiti, SUG president of the College of Health Technology had met with the Governor to express students frustrations concerning the unending strike action.
Comrade Chima in a solidarity gesture had written a letter to Governor Ayade threatening a protest and calling on government intervention to put an end to the industrial action.
Recall that the Unions had protested being delisted from the nationally approved Consolidated polytechnics and colleges of Education Academic staff Salary structure CONPCASS and the Consolidated Tertiary Educational institutions salary structure CONTEDISS by the Governor Ayade-led Cross River State government.
