Call for Entries: 18th Abuja International Film Festival

The 18th Abuja International Film Festival was established in 2004 in order to fill a gap in the Nigerian Film Festival circuit which was non existent then, but over the years that noble intention has metamorphosed into a global film festival and the longest running in Anglophone west Africa which has clearly shown that it was much more than filling a gap but creating a platform for the industry.

The international breakthrough came rapidly on the 3rd festival in 2006 when films were screened from 45 countries.

One of its main goals is to develop, present and explore the cultural identity of the Nollywood audiovisual sector helping it to give more creative contribution to the market. The film festival aims to give ground to young filmmakers who are looking for platforms to express their creative expertise.

The number of entries in features, shots, documentaries, animations and experimental category is gradually increasing. So in 2020, amidst the COVID19 pandemic, the film festival had 1062 films with over 100 selected by the pre-jury of which 70 made it to the competition level. Beside the competition and non competitive categories AIFF features a host of festival screenings, selections from film Schools, film markets, film-, and all-art workshops in the program.

It is also open to the public, therefore the 18th  Abuja International Film festival  will be held this year from 1st to 5th November 2021 in the capital city of Abuja Nigeria.

The deadline for entries is 20th August 2021.
