Prevent COVID-19 spread by wearing face mask and taking vaccine as we celebrate Sallah - Health Commissioner Dr Betta Edu Advocates to Muslims Communities


Muslim faithfuls world over, Today mark the end of Ramadan. The CRS Commissioner for Health Dr Betta Edu in her usual tradition joined the Muslims communities in Cross River State to celebrate this year's sallah. She used the opportunity to Advocate for continuous adherence to the PTF guidelines in other to prevent another wave of the COVD-19 pandemic. Furthermore the health Boss spoke to the various groups on the importance of maintaining personal and environmental Sanitation and Hygiene to prevent other diseases. 


Her first point of call was at the home of the Sarki of the Muslims community Salisu Abba Lawal who received her and her numerous gifts thanking her and the government of Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade for their maximum support to Muslims residing in Cross River.




"I'm here to celebrate this year's sallah celebration with our Muslims brothers and sisters, to congratulate you all for successfully completing the 30 days fasting and prayers. It is my belief that you prayed for our Country knowing the high level of insecurity and other challenges bothering our Nation.  I pray that Almighty Allah answer our supplications. In line with this, I decided to use this opportunity to carryout a wider sensitization campaign on health related matters as have been instructed by my principal Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade especially on the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the importance of getting vaccinated, safe motherhood and other preventable health issues. 


Like always, we must observe regular hand washing, wearing of face masks and keeping our environments clean. Our pregnant Mothers should always access our health facilities for care, same for our sick children."


Responding, the Sarki of the Muslim community Salisu Abba thanked the government of Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade for his everyday support to the Muslims people residing in his State as he has not only kept them safe and secured but has also absorbed them into his cabinet. "No government in the entire Country has been this fair and good to us like the government of Sen. Ben Ayade, he has made here a safe haven for us all. For you Dr Betta Edu, we cannot thank you enough for making here your second home, you've supported us tremendously especially during the heat of the Covid-19 outbreak. You brought us health materials and everything good that comes to this State you make sure we benefit. Allah will bless you and see to it that you finish strong and better, they'll be immense development in CRS, that is our prayers.


Further sensitization exercise was done for youth groups, elders with support of Imam on Covid-19 and other diseases. Dr Edu also felicitated with the disabled ones appreciating them for coming together to form a formidable team that will win International trophies, She presented gift Items to them as part of Sallah.


she celebrated with the Women and their Children educating them on the issues bothering childbirth, Immunisation, sanitation and Hygiene, proper nutrition COVID-19 and the importance of accessing health facilities for Covid-19 vaccine which the  second phase has commenced. She distributed palliatives which includes; over 6,000 facemasks, toilet tissues, toothbrush, bags of rice, anti malaria drugs, cartoons of biscuit, hand sanitizers, detol and other important health items.


Mrs Halima Abdulahi who spoke on behalf of the women and their children thanked the Health Commissioner for her love and care for all, stating that she has seen her around coming to offer support and educate them on health challenges. "On behalf of all mothers and children here present, i want to thank our beloved mother, sister, friend and health commissioner Dr Betta Edu for her everyday love, care, support and always carrying us along. This is not the first time she's bringing items to us, she has been doing this at least twice a year and we as mothers have taken her as one of our own especially as she has proven to us that tribe or religion doesn't count but we all are one. She's indeed a wonderful person and a leader who has got an open heart to accommodate everyone. This administration has favored us so much and has given us a sense of belonging as such we thank the Governor and all cross riverians as we will keep praying for peace and unity amongst us."
