The impeachment of the Zamfara State Deputy Governor, Mahdi
Gusau on Monday by the Zamfara State House of Assembly, the Chief Judge, and
others has been halted by Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in
Abuja.
The order was given by the judge while ruling in an ex-parte
motion which was presented by the Peoples Democratic Party.
The recent defection of Governor Bello Matawalle from the People’s
Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress has plunged Zamfara State
politics into the national limelight.
The Governor has also been dragged to court by the PDP over the
transfer of its mandate to the APC.
However, Deputy Governor Gusau decided not to join his
boss in defecting to the APC.
In Monday’s ruling, Zamfara State House of Assembly was stopped
by Justice Egwuatu from impeaching its other members who are still in the PDP.
Earlier this month, Deputy Governor Gusau was asked by the
Zamfara State House of Assembly to appear before its members on July 27
over a political rally he (Gusau) organised in the state.
