The Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prof Benedict Ayade has assured Refugees in the Ogoja settlement camp of his administration commitment to always provide succour to ameliorate their conditions.
Sen Professor Ayade who disclosed this on
Sunday at Ogoja while delivering over 5000 pieces of chickens and Noodles at
the Refugees settlement camp said that the purpose of the exercise is to make
those in the camp set to know that Cross River state Government loves them and
will always be open to provide shelter for as many as possible in this trying
times for them.
Governor Ayade who was represented by the
Commissioner for Humanity and Social Welfare services, Mrs Blessing Egbara
noted that the exercise was equally to reassure those living in the settlements
that all hope is not lost, while expressing satisfaction with the attitude
amongst the people, commending them for their peaceful coexistence with their
Host Community.
"it's no one's wish to be in a
situation like this, honestly these ones left their homes, business, properties
and all, to come down here, we are hoping that the situation in Cameron will
get better so that they can return back to their home.
I'm really pleased with everything I have
seen so far, the Coordination among yourselves is just wonderful to watch, and
I must strongly thank the Host Community for welcoming all of you with open
arms," Ayade maintained.
Reacting to the Governor's gesture the
Chairman of Ogoja LGA Hon. Emmanuel Ishabor, lamented that as the result of the
civil war in Cameroon, men and women. Children and families have to abandoned
their homes, businesses and other means of livelihood to seek refuge in
Nigeria.
"Indeed it is not easy when you have
to forsake your home and flee to another man's land for safety," adding
that the Humanitarian gesture of Governor Ayade is highly commendable,
stressing that the very act of humanitarian service rendered by the governor
through his able Commissioner for Humanity and Social Welfare SERVICES, Hon.
Blessing Egbara gives a sense of belonging to the refugees.
Hon. Ishabor further added that over 27,000
Refugees reside in Ogoja, and are spread across 3 active settlements namely
Adagom 1, 3 and Okenge settlements, while calling on all the settlers to
continue to remain peaceful and hopeful of better days ahead when they shall go
back to their homes.
