The Senate on Tuesday directed its Committees on Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Petroleum (Downstream) and National planning to lay and present the report investigating non-remittance of the 5% user charge pump price of petrol and international vehicles transit charges accruing to Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA).

The report was sequel to a motion sponsored by Senator Gershom Bassey calling on the investigation of Non remittance of the 5% user charges pump price of petrol and international vehicles transit charges accruing to FERMA .
Senator Gershom Bassey moves that the Senate do consider the report of the Joint Committees and was seconded by Sen.Gabriel Suswan (PDP-Benue). Senate stands down the Consideration of the Report till another legislative day

Sen Bassey in 2019, made a call through a motion for increased funding for maintenance and rehabilitation of the country’s federal highways.
He expressed worry that despite several calls, there has not been improved funding for maintenance and rehabilitation of highways.
Bassey disclosed that the federal highways in Nigeria requires the sum of about N215 billion per annum to revamp 3,500km of federal roads for 8-10 years for total rehabilitation to be achieved.
