Cross River State Governor, Professor Ben Ayade has approved the full commencement of the Federal Government /World Bank NG-Cares Programme in the State with a directive that the verification exercise commence immediately.
Ayade stated this when he recieved the Programme verification exercise team who have been in Cross River State for fifteen days on a fact finding mission to know the state of preparedness of the state.
Represented by the Commissioner for International Development Cooperation, Dr Inyang Asibong, Ayade said the inspection tour is to ensure accurate implementation and delivery of micro projects in the state, aimed at directly enhancing the lives of the rural dwellers.
According to the Governor, Cross River is among the states where the World Bank program is being carried out to foster community and social development to the less-privileged.
"The Independent Verification Agents ( IVA) of The Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) Program, have seen how prepared Cross River is for the project.
"Having completed your 15-day physical verification of micro projects across the 18 Local Government Areas of Cross River State,you have seen for your self how ready we are
" I am aware that you have carried out exercise after a thorough desk review of documentations of results and achievements of all Delivery Units of the NG-CARES program.
" I was also briefed that during the verification exercise, the IVAs assistants interviewed some of the direct beneficiaries of the Community and Social Development Projects, including water projects, agro farmers, the poor and vulnerable individuals and businesses in communities selected for the NG-CARES intervention" he added.
Also speaking, the Cross River NG-CARES Coordinator, Mr Chris Anake,said all necessary requirements have bee put in place for a successful programme.
The tour of projects in Cross River was carried out by a 5-man team of World Bank Consultants led by Prof. Christopher Chuckwura. The project's verification commenced from December 27th, 2022 through 10th January, 2023.
