Prince Otu Sandy Onor |
As the day draws near for the 2023 gubernatorial and state house of assembly elections, the curiosity in the heart of Cross Riverians increases.
The supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC governorship candidate, Senator Prince Bassey Otu and the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Senator Professor Sandy Onor the two major contenders for the number one sit in the state, have continued to canvass support for their candidate.
With different interests at the centre of the hearts of this teaming supporters, it is pertinent to note that beyond what individuals stand to gain, party interest or ethnicity, the restoration of the sanity and glory of this once clean and green city should be the top priority of every well thinking Cross Riverian.
The APC candidate, Senator Prince Bassey Otu mandate is to restore sweetness to Cross Riverians if elected the governor of the state.
Recall that Out represented Calabar Municipal/Odukpani Federal Constituency in the House of Reps between 2003 and 2011 and Cross River South in the Senate from 2011 to 2015.
From previous positions of authority occupied by Senator Otu, the need for Cross Riverians to elect a candidate that has demonstrated the capacity to lead cannot be overemphasized.
Recall his comment as he welcomed Cross Riverians into the new year
“The antecedent of a man while in public office is an indication of his capacity and political will. A strong example of my capacity is my antecedent.”
He is undoubtedly the epitome of good leadership with a teeming crowd of supporters. But, what will be the fate of Cross River State and Cross Riverians in general under his leadership?
Contrary to Senator Prince Otu's promise of an era of sweetness, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Senator Professor Sandy Onor has said that his mandate is to reclaim Cross River State.
Having served in different capacities, from the Executive Chairman of Etung Local Government Council (1999-2002), Chairman of Cross River State Local Government Service Commission, Commissioner for Agriculture (2010-2011) and Commissioner for Environment (2011-2013) among other public offices.
He was elected in 2019 to represent Cross River Central Senatorial District in the 9th Assembly of the Senate.
His leadership capacity is admirable and worthy of accolades.
But, beyond portfolios or titles, the dilapidated condition of Cross River state and its establishments will not respond to titles or records but will respond and change when a man with the people at heart is elected into office.
A man who is passionate about restoring the lost Canaan land and its glory. Promoting its cultural heritage and restoring enduring peace and security once enjoyed. This is the yearning of Cross Riverians and their fate hangs in a balance.
Remember, the gubernatorial and the state house of assembly polls will hold on the 18th of March.
While supporters drum their support for the candidate of their choice, what will be the fate of Cross Riverians? An era of Sweetness with Senator Prince Bassey Otu or a Reclaim For Senator Professor Sandy Onor?
Vote Wisely!
