Umar Ardo |
On Tuesday, the Court of Appeal in Abuja rejected the appeal lodged by Umar Ardo, the gubernatorial candidate of the Social Democratic Party, challenging the election victory of Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri from the People’s Democratic Party.
Ardo, dissatisfied with the election results, had approached the tribunal, seeking to annul Fintiri's win due to alleged non-compliance with the Electoral Act during the poll. However, the tribunal, chaired by Justice T. O. Uloho, dismissed the petition on grounds of incompetence and improper filing.
In the recent judgment, Justice Ugochukwu Ogaku of the Appeal Court concurred with the tribunal's finding that the appellants failed to substantiate claims of corrupt practices and non-compliance with the Electoral Act against INEC. The court declared the appeal devoid of merit and upheld the Tribunal's decision to dismiss the petition, with the parties instructed to bear their respective costs.
