To alleviate the impact of the country's cost of living crisis, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu revealed on Thursday plans to reduce the number of working days for public servants.
"We want to start with our public servants; immediately from next week, civil servants from lower levels will work three times a week, while those at levels 15-17 can work four times a week," Sanwo-Olu stated during an ongoing media discussion on economic hardship.
Addressing the escalating cost of food, the governor also outlined intentions to establish additional markets across Lagos State where residents can purchase food items at discounted rates.
"We will open Sunday Markets in at least 42 identified markets across Lagos State. Residents will have the opportunity to buy food items at discounted prices, with purchases limited to items worth up to N25,000," he added.
Sanwo-Olu further announced that a 25% reduction in transport services would commence this weekend for the State Public Transport system (BRT, Train, Ferry), and that discussions were underway with various transport unions to lower their fares.
Expressing empathy for citizens, the governor emphasized the need for leaders to address socioeconomic challenges, urging the private sector to contribute by emulating their role during the COVID-19 pandemic.
