The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a warning of haziness and cloudiness across the country from Monday to Wednesday. NiMet advised people with respiratory issues, among others, to be cautious of the weather conditions and wear masks.
NiMet’s weather outlook, released on Sunday in Abuja, forecasts moderate dust haze with a horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5km over the northern and north-central states. Patches of clouds are expected over the inland of the South throughout the forecast period.
On Tuesday, NiMet predicts moderate dust haze over the northern and north-central regions, with patches of clouds in a hazy atmosphere anticipated in some areas. In the south, isolated thunderstorms are expected over parts of several states during the afternoon and evening hours.
For Wednesday, NiMet envisages a slight dust haze over the northern region and patches of cloud in a hazy atmosphere over the north-central region, except over some specific states where isolated thunderstorms are expected later in the day. In the south, patches of clouds are expected in the morning with prospects of isolated thunderstorms over several states later in the day.
NiMet advised people with respiratory issues to wear face masks where possible and for children and the elderly to wear warm clothing at night. Airline operators were also advised to obtain updated weather reports and forecasts from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.
