Cross River State's Governor, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, has rescinded the appointment of Mr. Patrick Edi as the Clerk of the House of Assembly, appointing Barr. Catherine Ubi in his place.
The decision to withdraw Edi's appointment was communicated in a letter dated March 18, 2024, from Governor Bassey Otu to the House of Assembly, conveyed through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Anthony Owan Enoh. The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, announced this development during a session on March 19, 2024.
The SSG's letter cited the lack of emphasis on the critical criterion of seniority in the recommendations for Edi's appointment. It noted that although Patrick Edi was employed before Mrs. Catherine Ubi, her earlier promotion to Director conferred upon her the seniority required for the position of Clerk.
