Gov Yahaya: Gombe Cannot Afford N70,000 Minimum Wage

Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State

Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has stated that the state cannot afford to pay the new N70,000 minimum wage due to limited financial resources. This declaration came during a meeting with stakeholders regarding the upcoming nationwide #Endbadgovernance protest, held at the Gombe Government House banquet hall. Yahaya explained that Gombe, like many other states, is facing financial constraints that make it difficult to meet the new wage requirement recently approved by President Bola Tinubu after negotiations with labor unions.

The governor also addressed the issue of rice distribution promised by the Federal Government. While he praised the initiative, Yahaya expressed disappointment that Gombe has not yet received its allocation of 20 trucks of rice. He assured citizens that despite the delay, the state remains committed to providing relief and support. Yahaya highlighted ongoing efforts in human capital development, education, health, and agriculture as part of the state's relief measures.

Yahaya emphasized the need for peaceful and orderly behavior during the planned protests. The governor called for continued cooperation and dialogue to address the state's challenges collectively.

During the meeting, Yusuf Ibrahim, Chairman of the Gombe Network of Civil Society Organisations, presented a list of demands on behalf of various NGOs. He urged Governor Yahaya to release the details of stocked palliatives, emphasizing the need for transparency in the distribution of relief materials.
