Governor Fubara Denies Promising N80,000 Minimum Wage

Governor Siminialayi Fubara

The Rivers State Government has clarified that Governor Siminialayi Fubara never promised to pay N80,000 as the minimum wage for civil servants. This clarification comes in response to reports on social media platforms that claimed the governor proposed this amount.

In a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Friday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nelson Chukwudi, called the reports false. Chukwudi emphasized that the state has not yet decided on a new minimum wage, but will make an official decision in the future.

He stated: “The Rivers State Government is aware of claims circulating online that His Excellency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has proposed a new minimum wage of N80,000 for civil servants in the state and local government areas.

“It is important to clarify that the unverified claims being spread by Newsweekng.com, titled: ‘Breaking News: Governor Fubara Proposes N80,000 Minimum Wage,’ are completely false and misleading.

“The general public, especially civil servants in the State, should ignore these false claims. The Rivers State Government will announce its position on the matter in due course.”
