Kyari Faces Calls for Resignation Amid Accusations of Sabotaging Tinubu's Administration

Mele Kyari

Fifteen lawmakers from the Economy Rescue Group have called for the resignation of Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). They accuse Kyari of mismanaging the NNPCL and causing challenges for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In a statement released by Esosa Iyawe, a lawmaker representing Oredo Federal Constituency, the group demands Kyari's suspension while the House of Representatives’ Joint Committee on Petroleum (Downstream and Midstream) conducts a forensic investigation into the NNPCL and the oil sector.

The lawmakers claim that Kyari and his team are undermining Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and should be removed to prevent any potential sabotage. They support the House’s investigation into issues like the role of middlemen in trading, the issuance of licenses, the lack of laboratories to test for product quality, and the influx of adulterated products. They also raise concerns about the alleged non-domestication of profits from crude oil sales in local banks and other irregularities.

The lawmakers urge President Tinubu to take decisive action by suspending Kyari and his team until the investigation is complete. They believe that the NNPCL's mismanagement under Kyari's leadership is hindering the country's economic growth and undermining the administration's goals.
