In the early hours of Monday, a tragic accident on the Sagamu-Benin Expressway resulted in the deaths of two individuals. The incident occurred when a passenger bus collided with a truck.
The crash, which took place around 6:30 a.m., involved an unregistered Howo truck and a Toyota Hiace Bus with the registration number BEN 823 ZW. According to Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), speeding by the bus driver led to a loss of control and subsequent collision with the truck.
A total of 20 people were involved in the accident, including 15 males and five females. While 14 passengers managed to escape without injury, four others sustained varying degrees of injuries and two lost their lives.
Eyewitnesses reported that the bus driver's excessive speed was the primary cause of the accident, leading to the crash.
The deceased victims' remains have been taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) morgue. The injured individuals were also transported to the same hospital for medical treatment.
Akinbiyi confirmed, “The accident victims have been rescued to OOUTH while the bodies of the two dead victims were deposited at the OOUTH morgue.”
