A 14-year-old boy named Malik Kareem was tragically beheaded in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Saturday in what appears to be a ritual killing. The incident occurred in the Olorisaoko community within Akinyele Local Government Area, causing widespread fear and confusion.
According to investigations, Malik had recently completed his final West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) exam at Iyana Community Grammar School in Ibadan. On the day of the incident, Malik and three friends approached a Muslim cleric for a money ritual. Unbeknownst to Malik, the three boys had secretly conspired with the cleric to use him as a sacrifice.
Family members were alerted to the horrific event by a relative who rushed home with the news. When they arrived at the scene, they discovered Malik's lifeless body without a head, lying in a pool of blood inside the cleric's house. The head had already been burned.
The family learned that the three boys had strangled Malik to death before the cleric beheaded him. The body parts were to be used in a daily ritual involving pap, as the boys had confessed.
In response to the crime, angry youths in the area set fire to the cleric's house. The police have launched an investigation into the incident and promised to provide updates as the case progresses.
