The Cross River State Police Command has responded to a report published by Sahara Weekly and Phoenix APP on August 17, 2024, which has spread widely across social media and blogs. The report alleges that the police released suspects connected to the murder of an eight-month-pregnant woman. The Command views this report as an attempt to damage the relationship and trust between the police and the public.
Commissioner of Police, CP Gyogon Augustine Grimah, denies these allegations and informs the public that the prime suspects, Mrs. Ofem Usani Augustine and her husband, Mr. Augustine Bassey, were arrested in Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area, on August 18, 2024. The arrest followed a written petition demanding a thorough investigation and prosecution regarding the death of Mrs. Nneoyi Sunday Felix.
The CP emphasizes that the police are committed to maintaining peace, fairness, and justice in Cross River State. He assures the public that the investigation has already begun and that the results will be shared once available.
The Commissioner of Police also urges bloggers and social media users to stop spreading false and harmful information. He insists that no suspects have been released in connection to this case and that anyone with credible evidence should bring it to the Police Command Headquarters.
