Dangote Refinery Refutes Projected Petrol Price Hike by Marketers

The management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery has clarified that it has not set a price for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol. This was in response to a report titled "Marketers Project N600/litre for Dangote Petrol."

The refinery’s Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, issued a statement on Tuesday addressing the matter. He stated that independent petroleum marketers in Nigeria have been speculating that Dangote refinery might sell petrol at N600 or N650 per litre when it becomes available in the market. The marketers are hopeful that Dangote refinery will reduce the price of petrol, as it did with diesel. The Vice President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Hammed Fashola, noted that if the refinery receives adequate support, especially with crude oil supply, it could lower fuel prices.

Fashola added that while the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), which is the main importer of petrol, sells to marketers at N570 per litre, many IPMAN members purchase from private depots at higher prices, sometimes above N700 per litre.

However, Dangote Refinery made it clear that it has no business relationship with IPMAN and has never engaged in discussions with the group regarding petrol prices. The refinery urged the public to disregard these speculative statements, emphasizing that IPMAN is not authorized to speak on behalf of Dangote Refinery.

The statement concluded by advising the public to rely only on official communication channels for accurate information about Dangote’s pricing and policies.
