Kano CoS Denies Palliative Diversion Accusations by APC

Wada Sagagi

The Chief of Staff to the Kano State Governor, Wada Sagagi, has strongly denied accusations of diverting palliative rice meant for vulnerable residents. These allegations were made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, who claim that the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has been involved in multiple instances of palliative diversion. APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, even called for an investigation after bags of rice labeled as part of the "Federal Government Food Security Programme" were found in a private Islamiyya school owned by Sagagi.

A youth group, Northern Youths APC Merger Group, also petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding Sagagi's involvement in the diversion of rice. However, Sagagi dismissed these accusations as unfounded and politically motivated. He called the APC’s claims an attempt to damage his reputation and discredit the NNPP government's efforts in helping the people of Kano. Sagagi emphasized that his office had never been responsible for distributing palliatives, and there was no documentation to support the APC’s allegations.

Sagagi went on to accuse the APC of trying to create division and tension among the people by making baseless accusations. He said the NNPP government had been transparent in its distribution of relief materials, with clear records of beneficiaries. He urged the APC to either provide evidence of the claims or retract their statement.

Additionally, Sagagi criticized the APC for engaging in diversionary tactics to cover up their past mismanagement during their time in power. He stated that the APC is struggling to recover from their loss in the 2023 elections and instead of addressing their failings, they are resorting to blackmail and false accusations. He pointed out that the current NNPP government, led by Governor Abba Yusuf, has been committed to improving the state, focusing on transparency, education reform, and ensuring that civil servants receive their full salaries.

In conclusion, Sagagi reaffirmed the NNPP government's commitment to the welfare of Kano's people and insisted that the APC’s accusations would not succeed in derailing their efforts. He called on the APC to reflect on their governance failures rather than continuing to make baseless accusations.
