Religious Leaders Slam South-East Governors Over Inaction on Kanu’s Release

Ministers of God of Igbo extraction have accused South-East governors of displaying a non-challant attitude towards the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, charging the governors to be more proactive instead of playing the ostrich and the chicken.

Speaking under the aegis of Concerned Igbo Ministers Commission, the ministers of God noted the role all South-Westerners played in the release of one of their own, Sunday Igboho, stating, “When Igboho was detained in the Benin Republic, all Yoruba monarchs, politicians, and bishops rallied around Mr. Igboho until his release was secured.”

In a press statement signed by the International President/Co-ordinator of the commission, Rev. Tony Uzor Anthony, and the General Secretary, Apostle Tony Osuji, the group, lamented, “We openly accuse the South-East governors of playing chicken. What are they terrified of? That the moment Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu comes out they will become irrelevant? How come they put their interest over and above the interest of the general public of the Igbos?”

Warning that “our governors should also note that the protection of Mazi Kanu is part of the oath of office that they took,” they appealed to the governors “to please stand for their own as the governors of the South-West stood for Sunday Igboho.”

They raved, “Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu is a man God has given us for the general good of our people, born and unborn. Let’s come together as a people and pursue our common goal, more so, the release of Mazi Kanu.

“Kanu does not hate any of you but is focused on the general good of our people. Please prove this noble body wrong by making sure that Ndi Igbo are fully represented to meet with Mr President in respect of his release.”

The pastors also called on all the traditional rulers, bishops and politicians to rise up at this very special occasion for the release of Kanu.

They added, “No individual interest of the governors in the South-East should supersede the interest of Ndi Igbo at large. It appears evidently that the South-East governors, who recently assured us of their efforts to secure the release of Kanu, have suddenly gone quiet. The question is how come nobody is clamouring for the release of our brother, the IPOB leader?”
