The Federal High Court in Abuja has postponed its ruling on the removal of Chiedu Ebie, Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Board, until October 31.
The case was brought by some residents of Bayelsa and Delta States, who argued that Ebie's appointment was illegal. They claimed that Ebie is not from the community with the highest oil production, a requirement under the NDDC Act.
The plaintiffs, led by Chief Goodnews Gereghewei and others, sued President Bola Tinubu, the Senate President, the Attorney-General of the Federation, NDDC, and Ebie, saying his appointment violated the NDDC Act.
The plaintiffs asked the court to remove Ebie from office, claiming his appointment was an error. They also sought an injunction to stop him from acting as NDDC Chairman.
During the court session on Tuesday, lawyers for the President, the Attorney-General, the National Assembly, and Ebie argued that the case should be dismissed, citing a lack of jurisdiction. The court will now decide on these objections and the main case on October 31.
