Five Youths Killed in New Attack in Plateau

Five young people were killed in an attack in the Mbar community, located in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria.

According to a statement from the Bokkos Cultural Development Council Vanguard, signed by Chairman Farmasum Fuddang, the attack happened on Sunday night as the youths were traveling within the area.

The statement explained that the unarmed youths were on their way from Mbar town to Koh village when they were ambushed by terrorists on motorcycles. The attackers had previously been chased away by the military from nearby mountains.

The group condemned the killing, especially since there had been reports about terrorists entering the area. By the time security forces were informed and arrived at the scene, the attackers had already escaped. The statement also mentioned that this was just one in a series of violent incidents, including the recent killing of 11 youths in neighboring villages on September 3, 2024.

The group expressed concern over the continued attacks, which they see as attempts to force people out of their ancestral lands. They called for more community involvement in addressing security issues, working alongside security forces, similar to the civilian joint task force in other regions of Nigeria.

The Bokkos Local Government Council, led by Director of Personnel Management Christy Loyi, confirmed the incident and visited the families of the victims, assuring them that security measures would be strengthened in the area.
