Gunmen have reportedly abducted several travellers on the Gusau-Funtua highway in Zamfara state.
The attack occurred on Thursday morning when the assailants blocked the Tazame section of the highway and kidnapped an unspecified number of commuters.
Yazid Abubakar, the police spokesperson for Zamfara, confirmed the incident and stated that officers have been dispatched to the area.
"I will provide updates once I receive more information," he added.
Zamfara continues to experience increasing attacks by armed groups, with kidnapping being a frequent occurrence. Recently, Governor Dauda Lawal reaffirmed his administration’s stance of not negotiating with bandits terrorizing the state. He also denied claims that his government allocated large sums of money for dialogue and rehabilitation of bandits.
"We will not negotiate with terrorists," said Abubakar Nakwada, the state secretary, on behalf of Governor Lawal. "Our approach to the security challenges remains clear."
