Flood victims

The Independent Broadcasting Association of Nigeria (IBAN) has extended its deepest condolences and solidarity to the government and people of Maiduguri, as well as the entire Northeast region of Nigeria, in the wake of a devastating flood that has caused a humanitarian disaster, displacing thousands and severely impacting lives and communities.

In a statement signed by Alhaji Ahmed Ramalan Gregory, Chairman of IBAN, the association acknowledged the scale of suffering caused by the disaster, noting that many families have been left without homes, food, and medical assistance. The flood, which has overwhelmed local infrastructure, has created significant challenges for the affected population.

IBAN commended the tireless efforts of the government, aid agencies, and local communities working on the ground to bring relief to the victims. As broadcasters, IBAN emphasized the vital role of media in ensuring the plight of those affected remains in the public consciousness, urging Nigerian broadcasters to continue highlighting the scale of the tragedy to mobilize support from both public and private sectors.

### Call for International Assistance

In its appeal, IBAN called upon the international community, humanitarian organizations, and donor agencies to extend their support to Nigeria in addressing the crisis. The association emphasized that the scale of the disaster requires a global response, calling for financial, material, and technical assistance to help bring relief to those in need.

"The scale of this disaster requires a global response, and any form of assistance—be it financial, material, or technical expertise—will go a long way in bringing relief to the affected population," the statement read.

 IBAN's Commitment to Advocacy

IBAN pledged to continue using its platforms to raise awareness about the flood, ensuring that those affected are not forgotten. The association promised to advocate for sustained efforts from both local and international bodies to mitigate the effects of the disaster and support the rebuilding of affected communities.

"Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims, their families, and all the people of Maiduguri as they navigate through these trying times," the statement concluded.

The flood has garnered widespread concern, with IBAN calling for collective action to help alleviate the suffering of those impacted and ensure a swift recovery for Maiduguri and the surrounding areas.
