The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has clarified its policy regarding Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) who arrived late and missed registration at their Orientation Camps.
This issue arose after some PCMs expressed concerns during the ongoing 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream 2 Orientation Course.
In a statement from Caroline Embu, the NYSC Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, the scheme confirmed its policies on mobilization and orientation.
The statement highlighted that the NYSC's policy is clearly outlined in the official documents and Call-Up Letters given to PCMs. The Call-Up Letters for this batch specified that registration would close at midnight on Thursday, August 29, 2024, with the Swearing-in Ceremony scheduled for Friday, August 30, 2024.
This information was shared with all PCMs so they would arrive at the camps on time.

However, after receiving reports of late arrivals, the NYSC Management decided to extend the registration deadline to midnight on Friday, August 30, 2024, to accommodate those who faced unexpected delays.
Despite this extension, some PCMs were still unhappy and shared their frustrations on social media, asking for more leniency. In response, the NYSC Director General visited some of the affected camps. He sympathized with the PCMs but stressed the importance of following the rules, including the set dates for orientation.
While the Director General expressed sympathy for those affected, he emphasized that the NYSC must operate within its rules. However, he instructed that those who missed the deadline be provided with temporary accommodation and meals before leaving the camps. This gesture was to ensure they were treated with respect and dignity.
The Director General also assured the affected PCMs that they would be accommodated in the 2024 Batch ‘C’ mobilization, offering some relief to those who made genuine efforts to arrive on time but were unable to register. The NYSC Management urged all PCMs to follow the guidelines in the future.
