The Special Task Force on Petroleum and Illegal Bunkering (IGP-STFPIB) of the Nigerian Police has discovered an illegal oil refinery in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
At a press conference in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, described this as a major breakthrough in the fight against oil theft, illegal oil bunkering, and economic sabotage.
According to reports from Galaxy TV, Adejobi said that on September 12, 2024, the task force, working with the Rivers State Police Command, found a storage facility in Trans Amadi, Port Harcourt, used for processing stolen crude oil.
The operation led to the arrest of four suspects: Emmanuel Nwachi, 58; Adamu Bala, 35; Nura Musa, 22; and Bashir Abubakar, 28. They also seized 40,000 liters of petroleum products stored in 67 white tanks. The police destroyed the illegal site and confiscated the equipment used in the operation.
ACP Adejobi also stated that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, reaffirmed the police force's commitment to fighting all forms of crime, including economic sabotage. The police remain dedicated to bringing these offenders to justice.
