Abuja Landowners Given Ultimatum as FCTA Cracks Down on Undeveloped Properties

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has given property owners in the Federal Capital City a three-month deadline to develop their undeveloped buildings or risk having them demolished.

In a statement signed by Felix Obuah, Coordinator of the Abuja Municipal Management Council, and shared with the media on Monday night, the FCTA said this decision was due to an increase in illegal structures and shanties across the city.

Obuah explained that these undeveloped properties were being used by criminals, creating a security threat to residents. He warned that if the owners do not develop the buildings within the given time, their land titles could be revoked, and the structures would be demolished.

"The FCTA is concerned about the growing number of shanties and squatters in unfinished and undeveloped properties across the Federal Capital City, which are being used by criminals, causing a serious security risk," the statement said.

"Property owners are therefore directed to develop and secure their properties within three months. Failure to comply may result in actions such as the revocation of land titles and demolition of abandoned buildings," the document concluded.
