Army Arrests Soldier, Launches Probe Into Policeman's Death in Lagos



The 81 Division of the Nigerian Army is investigating the death of a police officer following a clash with a soldier in Lagos on October 9, 2024.


In a statement from Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Ayeni, the Army expressed regret over the incident, which occurred after a disagreement over a traffic violation. According to reports, soldiers from Ojo Cantonment, led by an unidentified soldier, were stopped for driving against traffic. This led to an altercation where the policeman, Saka Ganiyu, was fatally stabbed.


The Army has arrested the soldier responsible and handed him over to the Military Police for investigation and discipline. They described the incident as "regrettable" and reiterated their commitment to upholding the Nigerian Army’s Code of Conduct.


The Army also extended condolences to the family of the deceased and the Nigeria Police, promising a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served. The 81 Division emphasized its dedication to maintaining professional conduct and working closely with other security agencies.
