Atiku’s Fate in 2027 Will be Decided by God and Destiny - Dele Momodu

Dele Momodu and Atiku Abubakar

Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation Magazine and a key member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has stated that whether Atiku Abubakar becomes Nigeria’s president in 2027 will be determined by God and destiny.

In an interview with Channels Television on Monday, Momodu questioned why critics are worried about Abubakar's ambition, especially after former Ekiti governor Ayodele Fayose suggested that the 77-year-old should step down due to his age. Fayose argued that Nigerians are looking for younger leaders.

Speculation has been rising that Abubakar, who has previously run for president six times, may seek the PDP’s presidential ticket again in 2027, when he will be 81 years old.

Momodu responded to these criticisms, saying that age should not automatically qualify or disqualify someone from running for office, citing U.S. presidents Joe Biden and Donald Trump as examples of older leaders. He also pointed out that many critics of Abubakar did not support younger candidates in the 2023 elections.

Momodu emphasized that it is up to God and destiny whether Abubakar runs or not. "If Alhaji Atiku decides to run, good luck to him," he said, questioning why people are afraid of his candidacy.

When asked if Abubakar would pose a threat to President Bola Tinubu’s potential re-election in 2027, Momodu replied, "Yes, if he can build a strong political party, he will be a threat." He added that Abubakar stands a chance if the nation strongly opposes the current leadership by that time.
