Driver Dies in Fatal Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Crash After Colliding with Truck

Accident scene

A tragic accident happened on Wednesday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when a driver died after his white Mazda bus crashed into a moving truck near Lotto, close to Car Park C.

The driver, who was alone in the bus filled with bags of potatoes, was heading to Lagos when the crash happened. Witnesses believe the driver might have fallen asleep while driving, causing him to lose control and hit the truck from behind.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Enforcement and Compliance Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed that the accident was likely caused by speeding and tiredness. He explained, "The driver was speeding and probably dozed off. The bus, loaded with potatoes for an early morning delivery, crashed into a Dangote truck. Sadly, the driver died on the spot, trapped in the wrecked bus before he could be rescued."

Akinbiyi offered his condolences to the driver’s family and urged drivers to be careful, especially at night. He stressed the importance of avoiding speeding and fatigue while on the road, saying, "We remind drivers to avoid night travels and speeding, as these lead to unnecessary accidents."

This tragic incident highlights the need for better road safety awareness, especially on busy roads like the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
