The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, has assured that the federal government is committed to ending the ongoing clashes between farmers and herders in Plateau State.
During a meeting in Jos on Sunday with community leaders, traditional rulers, and security agencies at the 3 Division headquarters in Bassa Local Government Area, Badaru expressed concern over the continued violence, despite efforts to resolve the issue.
He emphasized the dangers of dividing communities along ethnic or religious lines and urged everyone to live together peacefully. The minister acknowledged the recent attacks in Barkin Ladi and Riyom LGAs, which led to the loss of lives and property, and promised to deploy all necessary resources to ensure the safety and security of the people.
Badaru called on both farmers and herders to reject violence and embrace peace, noting their mutual dependence for economic growth. He also praised security personnel for their efforts and conveyed President Bola Tinubu's appreciation for their hard work.
The minister explained that his visit aimed to engage with key stakeholders in the state to find solutions to the security challenges, including farm destruction and cattle rustling, which have fueled recent conflicts.

Badaru reiterated the federal government's commitment to protecting the country and ensuring peace, stating, "We will not rest until people can sleep safely, free from fear." He also criticized those disrupting farming activities during the rainy season and stressed the need for cooperation between farmers and herders, as both groups rely on each other to survive.
The minister concluded by urging security officers to continue their efforts to resolve the crisis, assuring them of the president's support and gratitude.
