A petrol tanker exploded in the Ibafo area of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Wednesday, causing a massive fire that destroyed several vehicles and houses. Some people were injured in the incident.
An eyewitness reported that the fire started after the tanker overturned in front of a commercial bank. The tanker was said to be swaying before it fell, spilling fuel into the drainage. Initially, some individuals began collecting the spilled fuel, but a few minutes later, a fire broke out from the other side of the expressway and quickly spread.
The fire destroyed four tipper trucks parked near a fuel station and extended into a nearby community. Fortunately, the drainage system in the area helped limit the damage, though several buildings were affected, and three people were injured.
Authorities from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Ogun police command have not yet provided official statements on the incident.
This explosion follows another tragic petrol tanker explosion in Jigawa on Tuesday, which claimed over 90 lives.
