Kano State Government Bans AIT, NTA, and Others from Covering Its Events

Governor Abba Yusuf,

The Kano State Government has stopped 14 journalists from covering its activities. On Tuesday, the government withdrew their accreditation, meaning they can no longer report on government events.

Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the spokesperson for Governor Abba Yusuf, sent a message to the journalists asking them to return to their media organizations for replacements. Although no clear reason was given, the decision seems related to recent events.

In his message to the press, Dawakin-Tofa thanked the journalists for their work but mentioned that while he was in Serbia last week, something happened that required the leadership to act.

The 14 journalists affected include directors, producers, and cameramen from several media organizations like AIT, NTA, and Radio Kano. Some incidents mentioned include a disagreement between Kano's press crew and security officers during a condolence visit to Jigawa and journalists trying to meet Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed without approval.

While these events were cited, insiders suggest the situation may be more complicated, possibly involving past tensions between the press and the government
