Nigerians Must Get Approval to Use National Anthem – NOA

The Federal Government has urged Nigerians to seek formal approval before using the national anthem to prevent misuse or misinterpretation.

Lanre Issa-Onilu, Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), announced on Wednesday that permission must be obtained from the agency before using the anthem or its lyrics.

As the guardians of Nigeria’s national symbols, NOA is responsible for preventing any misuse. Issa-Onilu also shared that awareness campaigns would be conducted across the country to explain the new guidelines.

He further highlighted that the Nigerian flag’s official colors remain green, white, and green, with a specific shade of Emerald 2.0.

The NOA boss mentioned that previous governments neglected value orientation while focusing more on infrastructure, which led to the decline of social programs like the Boys’ Scouts and the WAI Brigade. However, President Bola Tinubu has taken steps to revive these initiatives.

President Tinubu recently signed a bill to re-adopt Nigeria’s old national anthem, "Nigeria, We Hail Thee," which was originally composed in 1959 but was replaced in 1978.
