On October 17, 2024, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken had a phone call with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. During the conversation, they talked about the recent death of Yahya Sinwar and the need to intensify efforts to end the ongoing conflict and free hostages.
Secretary Blinken stressed the importance of creating a path for the people of Gaza to rebuild their lives and pursue their goals without the threat of war and without the influence of Hamas. He also reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to achieving a diplomatic solution to the conflict along the Blue Line, in line with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.
The Secretary thanked Qatar for its essential role in mediating and supporting peace efforts in the region, emphasizing the importance of working towards lasting stability.
