There was a strong security presence in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Tuesday as tensions rose over the nationwide #October1Fearless protest. The protest follows the earlier #EndBadGovernance demonstrations held in August.
Youths suspected to oppose the protest gathered at the Federal Secretariat and Pleasure Park, which were key spots during the August protests. While they did not engage in any demonstrations, their increasing numbers led to a higher deployment of security personnel.
Officers from the Nigerian Police, Army, Civil Defence, and other agencies were seen patrolling the city. Despite the heightened security, businesses remained open, and traffic moved freely without any incidents of violence or disruption.
