U.S. and Angola Sign Open Skies Agreement

On October 21, 2024, the United States and Angola signed an Open Skies Agreement to strengthen aviation cooperation between the two countries. U.S. Ambassador to Angola Tulinabo S. Mushingi and Angola's Secretary of State for International Cooperation, Ambassador Domingos Custodio Vieira Lopes, signed the agreement in Luanda.

The Open Skies Agreement sets a modern standard for air travel between the U.S. and Angola. It will boost economic and commercial partnerships, create more travel and shipping opportunities, and promote tourism and business ties.

The agreement allows airlines from both countries to operate freely, offering unlimited flights for both passengers and cargo. It also allows for open route rights, charter services, and code-sharing opportunities between airlines. The agreement has been in effect since April 2023 and will be fully enforced once both countries complete the required procedures.

This deal adds to the U.S. Open Skies agreements with over 135 other countries, helping U.S. airlines expand globally and connect to growing markets.
