U.S. and Canada Take Action Against Fundraising Network for Terrorist Group PFLP

On October 15, 2024, the United States and Canada took joint action against the Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network (Samidoun), a group linked to raising funds for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a designated terrorist organization. The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) labeled Samidoun as a fake charity that supports PFLP’s activities in Europe and North America. The PFLP has been classified as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the U.S. since 1997.

Along with Samidoun, Khaled Barakat, a PFLP leader, was also sanctioned for his involvement in fundraising and recruitment for the group. Canada has listed Samidoun as a terrorist organization under its Criminal Code, prohibiting activities such as funding or providing support to the group.

The coordinated action aims to disrupt the financial networks of terrorist groups and prevent funds from being misused. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to working together to combat terrorist financing and uphold security.
