U.S. Assistant Secretary Todd Robinson to Visit Argentina and Uruguay for Drug and Security Talks

The U.S. Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), Todd D. Robinson, is scheduled to visit Argentina and Uruguay from October 14 to 18. The goal of the trip is to strengthen cooperation in the fight against illegal synthetic drugs and to boost regional security.

In Buenos Aires, Argentina, Robinson will meet with top government officials to discuss how both countries can work together to stop the production and trafficking of synthetic drugs. He will also meet with a representative from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and experts in a high-level event aimed at addressing the illegal use of chemical substances, known as chemical precursors, which are often used to make synthetic drugs.

The meetings in Argentina are a part of ongoing joint efforts between the United States and Argentina to curb the growing problem of synthetic drugs in the region, a key issue for both countries. They aim to discuss how to better monitor and control the chemicals that are used in drug production, ensuring that these substances are not misused or diverted for illegal purposes.

After his meetings in Argentina, Robinson will travel to Montevideo, Uruguay. There, he will engage with Uruguayan officials to explore ways to improve public safety and citizen security. The focus will be on strengthening cooperation between the U.S. and Uruguay to tackle challenges related to crime and public safety.
