New Leader for Diplomatic Security in Los Angeles



Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) has announced the appointment of Paul Beatty as the new Special Agent in Charge of the Los Angeles Field Office. In this role, Beatty will oversee a wide range of security operations, including criminal investigations and protective security measures, across a vast region encompassing Southern California, Nevada, Arizona, Hawaii, American Samoa, and the U.S. Territories in the Western Pacific.


Beatty, a seasoned diplomat and security expert, brings a wealth of experience to this position. He has served in various high-stakes assignments in countries such as China, the Republic of the Congo, Algeria, and Jordan. This diverse background equips him with the necessary skills and knowledge to address the complex security challenges faced by the United States in the region.


A native of Issaquah, Washington, Beatty holds a degree in international studies from the University of Washington and a master’s degree in technology intelligence from the National Intelligence University. His academic background, coupled with his extensive field experience, positions him well to lead the Los Angeles Field Office.


As Special Agent in Charge, Beatty will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of U.S. diplomatic personnel and facilities in his area of responsibility. He will also work closely with local law enforcement agencies to address transnational crime and threats to national security.
