SquirrelPR, a leading PR management platform, has
successfully organized a pilot workshop to enhance the capacity of journalists
and bloggers in financial reporting. The training, titled Reporting the Money
Market, was held on November 14, 2024, and equipped participants with critical
skills to excel in covering Nigeria’s financial sector.
The workshop, which ran from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM,
drew the participation of journalists and bloggers who attended the full
session. It featured six key modules designed to deepen participants’
understanding of the money market, including Basics of Money Markets & Key
Instruments, Interpreting Macroeconomic Indicators, Risk, Liquidity &
Market Analysis, Mastering Financial Statement Analysis, Essential
Investigative Techniques, and Reporting Ethics & Objectivity.
In his keynote address, Chima Nwokoji, Chairman
of the Finance Correspondents Association of Nigeria (FICAN), praised SquirrelPR
for initiating such a timely program, saying:
"As journalists, our ability to accurately
and critically report on the money market plays a vital role in shaping public
understanding and promoting transparency. This workshop sets a new benchmark
for empowering financial reporters with the tools to meet the demands of an
ever-evolving financial sector."
The workshop also received commendation from Keni
Akintoye, Founder/CEO of KT Communication, a leading digital marketing agency.
While addressing participants, he highlighted the relevance of such initiatives
in today’s media landscape.
"In an era where digital news publishing has
disrupted traditional journalism, this training ensures that financial
reporters maintain high professional standards while delivering insightful and
ethical reportage. SquirrelPR has set a strong
precedent with this initiative," Akintoye remarked.
The highly interactive session was led by
Babajide Komolafe, Economy Editor at Vanguard Newspaper, who brought over
two decades of experience reporting on Nigeria’s financial sector. Komolafe’s
wealth of knowledge, coupled with his practical approach, kept participants
engaged throughout the workshop. He provided actionable insights into
navigating the complexities of the money market and interpreting economic
indicators effectively.
The success of this pilot training underscores
SquirrelPR’s commitment to empowering media professionals with the knowledge
and tools needed to thrive in an increasingly complex and dynamic financial
