Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has been banned for seven games and fined £100,000 for making racist comments about his teammate Son Heung-min.
An independent commission ruled on Bentancur's actions, which reportedly happened during a pre-season interview, according to Football London. The ban applies to domestic games, meaning Tottenham will miss one of their key players for a significant stretch. Bentancur has been a regular under manager Ange Postecoglou, playing nearly every Premier League match this season.
The Football Association (FA) stated that Bentancur breached its rules by using insulting and abusive language in a way that harms the sport's reputation. The FA’s statement confirmed the seven-match suspension and fine for violating FA Rule E3.
