WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a move to disrupt the flow of dangerous narcotics into the United States, the U.S. Department of State today announced a significant increase in the reward offered for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, also known as “El Mencho.” The reward under the Narcotics Rewards Program (NRP) is now up to $15 million.
Oseguera Cervantes is the co-founder and current leader of the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), a violent Mexican drug cartel responsible for trafficking fentanyl and other illicit drugs into the United States. The CJNG has been designated by the U.S. Department of the Treasury as one of the most dangerous transnational criminal organizations in the world.
“El Mencho” has been a fugitive since 2017, when he was first indicted in the United States for drug trafficking-related charges. These charges include engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise, conspiracy to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl for importation into the United States, and use of a firearm during drug trafficking crimes.
“The United States remains committed to dismantling the CJNG and bringing its leadership to justice,” stated [Name of Spokesperson], Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State. “This increased reward reflects the seriousness of the threat posed by Mr. Oseguera Cervantes and the CJNG to the safety and security of the United States.”
The NRP is a vital tool in the U.S. government’s fight against international drug trafficking. The program offers rewards for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of major narcotics violators and fugitive drug traffickers.
The DEA Seeks Information on Other CJNG Leaders
In addition to the increased reward for El Mencho, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) continues to seek information on other high-ranking members of the CJNG. These include:
AudÃas Flores-Silva: A close associate of El Mencho and a designated target under the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act. The Department of State offers a reward of up to $5 million for information leading to his arrest and/or conviction.
Juan Carlos Valencia Gonzalez: Another high-ranking CJNG leader with a Department of State reward offer of up to $5 million.
Anyone with information on El Mencho, Flores-Silva, Valencia Gonzalez, or other CJNG activities is urged to contact the DEA. Tips can be submitted anonymously via text message or WhatsApp at +1-213-237-9990 or by email at MENCHOTIPS@dea.gov. All information will be kept strictly confidential.
By working together, the U.S. government and its international partners can disrupt the activities of the CJNG and bring its leaders to justice
