Washington, D.C. – USAID Administrator Samantha Power has praised the agency’s efforts in addressing global challenges and promoting democracy, humanitarian aid, and climate resilience in 2023.
Key achievements highlighted by Administrator Power include:
Humanitarian Aid: USAID responded to 84 humanitarian crises in 66 countries, providing life-saving aid to millions affected by conflicts in Gaza, Sudan, and Ukraine.
Global Health: The agency continued its efforts to combat global health threats, including HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis.
Climate Change: USAID supported nearly 100 countries in their efforts to address climate change by investing in renewable energy, resilient infrastructure, and natural resource management.
Democracy and Governance: The agency launched the Partnership for a Lead-Free Future, a global initiative to end childhood lead poisoning. Additionally, USAID supported democratic reforms in countries like Guatemala and Fiji.
Ukraine Support: USAID provided critical assistance to Ukraine, including support for energy infrastructure and humanitarian aid.
Digital Transformation: The agency established a new office dedicated to digital transformation, aiming to leverage technology to drive development and improve governance.
