USAID Welcomes Gaza Ceasefire, Pledges Continued Humanitarian Support

WASHINGTON, - The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire in Gaza, which marks a significant step toward reuniting hostages with their families and providing critical relief to Palestinian civilians impacted by the devastating conflict.

Administrator Samantha Power highlighted the ceasefire as a result of extensive U.S. diplomatic efforts with regional partners. She emphasized USAID’s ongoing commitment to delivering life-saving humanitarian aid to more than 2.1 million Palestinians in urgent need, including nearly 1.9 million displaced individuals.

"The United States has provided nearly $1.2 billion in humanitarian assistance to Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and neighboring countries since the start of the war," Power stated. She acknowledged the extraordinary efforts of humanitarian partners, who have faced immense personal risks in what has become the deadliest conflict for aid workers in history.

The ceasefire creates an opportunity for an immediate and sustained surge in humanitarian assistance. USAID will collaborate with the United Nations, the Government of Israel, and regional partners to ensure improved conditions for aid delivery and secure movement for humanitarian actors. Addressing issues such as looting of relief supplies and the breakdown of law and order will be critical to maintaining a stable environment for aid operations.

"This is a moment of enormous possibility," Power said, echoing President Biden's call to use this opportunity not only to provide urgent aid but to work toward a lasting and just peace for both Palestinians and Israelis.

USAID reaffirmed its commitment to expanding humanitarian efforts across Gaza, preventing further suffering, and supporting efforts to end the war while fostering a foundation for enduring peace in the region.
