Cross River Police Command Investigates Alleged Brutality by Former Officer in Boki

February 25, 2025 - The Cross River State Police Command has responded to a viral social media video alleging police brutality by one Benedict Osang, popularly known as Bishop, in Boki Local Government Area. The Command has officially clarified that Osang is no longer a member of the Nigeria Police Force and has ordered a thorough investigation into the allegations.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ugbo Irene, the Command confirmed that Benedict Osang was once a Police Constable recruited in 2011. However, he deserted the Rivers State Police Command and has since been disengaged from the Force. Osang is now a political appointee in Boki Local Government Area and has no affiliation with the Nigeria Police Force.

The Cross River State Police Command made it clear that it has no responsibility for Osang’s actions, as he is no longer a police officer. However, the Command reaffirmed its duty to protect lives and property, apprehend criminals, and ensure justice prevails. Given the seriousness of the allegations, the Commissioner of Police, CP Gyogon Augustine Grimah, PSC, FCAI, has ordered a detailed investigation into any rights violations or criminal activities linked to Osang or any other individuals involved.

The Police Command also assured residents of Cross River State of its commitment to upholding the rule of law and human rights. The Commissioner urged any residents of Boki Local Government Area who may have suffered from Osang’s alleged actions to come forward and provide evidence to assist in the ongoing investigation.

Finally, the Police Command emphasized its commitment to transparency, stating that the findings of the investigation will be made public. Residents are encouraged to trust the process as law enforcement works to ensure justice and accountability in the state.
