IGP Expands GBV Desk Offices to Police Divisions Nationwide

Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun

In a renewed commitment to human rights and justice, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has approved the expansion of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) desk offices to all police divisions across Nigeria. This move aims to enhance efficiency, improve service delivery, and provide easier access to justice for victims of gender-based violence.

Previously available only at zonal and state commands, the GBV desks will now be present at the divisional level to ensure faster and more professional handling of cases. The IGP has also directed that only qualified officers be appointed as GBV desk officers. These officers will undergo specialized training to equip them with the skills needed to handle GBV cases effectively.

Additionally, the Juvenile, Women, and Children (JWC) section will now operate under the GBV desk at the divisional level. This integration will provide a comprehensive approach to addressing GBV and related cases, ensuring victims receive proper support and swift justice.
