Kaduna University ASUU to Start Indefinite Strike on February 11

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Kaduna State University (KASU) has announced an indefinite strike starting on February 11 due to unresolved welfare issues.

In a letter signed by Chairman Dr. Peter Adamu and Secretary Dr. Peter Waziri, the union informed its national body about the decision and requested approval.

The union decided to strike after the Kaduna State Government failed to address their concerns. Their demands include:

  • Unpaid salaries for five months (May–September 2022)
  • 60% of September 2017 salary and other withheld wages
  • Unpaid Earned Academic Allowance (2015–2020)
  • Unpaid Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (2016–2023)
  • Non-remittance of pensions (2009–2019)
  • Unpaid promotion arrears (2019–2023)
  • No Group Life Insurance payments for deceased lecturers (2020–present)

The lecturers met with Governor Uba Sani on August 17, 2024, where he promised to clear the outstanding payments. The union sent reminders on August 20 and October 28, 2024, urging quick action.

On December 17, 2024, the governor met with university unions again and promised that payments would start within three weeks. However, by January 17, 2025, no payment had been made, and the union sent another reminder.

With no response from the government, ASUU has decided to go on an indefinite strike until their demands are met.
